Scooty 1998

Scooty was dumped on the doorstep of a local vet. She had problems for sure, but wasn't  in any pain. Unable to walk, or stand up for long. We took care of Scooty for about 4 years, and she did pretty good. Besides not being able to walk, the interesting thing about her is that her urine was not at all normal. It had a foul distinctive odor.
Another thing. Her coat was ok from head to mid back, and dull and unkept from the middle to her tail. Her body above the injury point was normal sized, and below it was slightly smaller. Maybe not growing quite as fast as the rest of her.

After about 4 years she got several bladder infections in a row. We treated them, but the vet said Scooty was "going downhill".

We consulted the AltVetMed web page and found a referral to a chiropractor through an organization we found there.

AltVetMed

The chiropractor X-rayed Scooty and said, "no breaks lets adjust her". There has been many healthful changes for Scooty because of spinal adjustment.

After the 2nd chiropractic visit the strange urine odor started to go away. And after the 3rd visit it was gone and never came back. The chiropractor said, he thought some of her organs had been restricted by pinched nerves. This interfered in communication between the brain and vital organs. The adjustments removed the blockage.

The next time Scooty visited the vets office where she came from, the doctor and staff were so happy to see her. The vet said it was apparent that whatever we did was allowing her function better. No more bladder infections, no more stinking pee!
Her fur is now nice all over. Her lower body never did quite reach the same size as the upper, but hard to notice now.

Who would imagine that after being in this shape for 4 years three chiropractic visits could change her health so much! Not us, and we had been going to chiropractors for years ourselves!
On top of the wonder of this, is the fact that chiropractors are forbidden to work on animals in this and many other states.

That's a law that needs to be changed, but probably will not be.

Its been 4 years since then, and we've had her 8+ years now. Scooty still has chiropractic tune ups from time to time. But her coat has maintained, despite her mode of travel  ;-)    and she is healthy otherwise. She can climb a chair, or couch, and when she wants to, can really scoot fast across the yard. She gets to be outside as long as we are home. And hates to come in at night.

Up-date February 28 2001: Scooty continues on with chiropractic visits as often as we can get her to the clinic. After each adjustment, she shows improvement. Between adjustments, she may develop bladder infections if we go too long.

Update September 2001: Bladder infections getting more often. Vets suggest antibiotics on a regular basis. We are concerned that using antibiotics too much, and it might quit working. So we may ease her into Colloidal Silver and see if it controls her infections. Other than that she's doing great. The CS didn't help. Back to antibiotics.

Update May 2002: Scooty is doing fine. We give her regular antibiotics to combat the recurrent bladder infections.

Update May 2004: Scooty is ok. She became immune to her antibiotics and developed a kidney infection before we knew it. New antibiotics now, plus regular infusions of water by IV to keep her kidneys flushed. She can spend time doing nothing in one spot, and then she makes her rounds in the yard chasing bugs. When we sit in the yard, Scooty comes over and hangs out where we are. We are watching her close now as she cant stand many more major problems.

Blondie 1999

Blondie is a 2 year old female who is also from a local vet. She was diagnosed with ameloblastoma  late july 1999. In the picture above, the slight swelling can just be seen between her left eye and her nose.
The vet told us this cancer will not spread, but is very difficult to get rid of with surgery. They didn't recommend radiation either.

Left with that diagnosis, we looked for holistic treatments on the HolistiCat list, and feline_cancer list. Right now Blondie is taking Essiac tea, IP-6, and Pau D'Arco herbs.

Click the link below for HolistiCat webpage, and learn how to subscribe to that list.
And the OneList link takes you to there home page where you can join for free. Then search and subscribe to the feline_cancer list.

Soon after diagnosis the tumor began pressing against her left eye and tear duct. Causing it to water more and more. In late august early september her poor eye was inflamed and watering constantly. She looked like it was bothering her.
But around 7 september the tearing decreased. And by 14 september it stopped altogether. Her red eye lining has cleared up too.
She is frisky and isn't bothered by the tumor at all. We will look into other herbs in addition to her regular twice a day dosage.
But there is a limit to how much stuff you can force on an animal. So liquids or capsules that can dissolve might be ok. Most important is that all natural cancer herbs work together and not conflict with each other. Two additional herbal cancer treatments have been suggested. Grape seed extract, and Carnivora. But we need to think about this some more, before we add anymore to her daily dosages.
Update, October 7 1999. Her eye is tearing again, off and on. We are watching the situation closely.

Update Oct 11 1999. Blondie's eye started watering again Oct 3rd, and didn't look good about 5 days. But as of today its been dry for two days.

Update November 23 1999. We started giving her Feldine on Oct 31st & we've seen a decent shrinkage of the tumor! She is getting feldine (in liquid form) every other day to reduce side effects. Feldine is a human arthritis drug. Side effects can be stomach ulcers.
I estimate the tumor has shrunk by at least 10%, and maybe a little more in these few weeks.

Update January 6 2000. The tumor has pulled back far enough that her lower L. fang no longer pokes into the tumor! Its also shrinking on the back end nearest her eye. I guess 15 - 20% shrinkage so far.

Talked to another local vet about feldine, and he said it just might shrink the tumor until it cuts off the blood supply and "kills the tumor". It could happen.

Blondie has done fine, and has no idea she has cancer. She sleeps in the sun, and eats like a pig. Gaining weight!

Update on Blondie February 28 2001: She continues to do well. The tumor sometimes swells slightly, and that is followed by eye drainage, and the tumor goes back to the smaller size. We are unsure, but today the tumor looks slightly larger, and it hasn't drained. So it might be time to start Feldine again.

Update July 2001: Now its two years since the biopsy and cancer diagnosis. We took her off Cantron and she's on Cansema Tonic. It can be seen at http://www.altcancer.com for more information.

September 2001: The tumor looks the same, no change. Its not bothering her.

The Cansema Tonic wasn't helping so we changed to Cansema capsules. Its a different formula so worth trying. We started this at the end of Feb. 2002.

For a 5LB cat we empty one capsule of Cansema herbs and add enough cod liver oil to last for 10 days. Its about 1/2cc per day. We syringe it to the back and side of her mouth. This way she doesn't get any on her tongue and doesn't gag on it.

After 45 to 60 days on Cansema capsules the tumor has changed color to off white. Its been a dark pink all these years. We are told that the change in color is a good sign. It is indicative that enough of the active compounds have reached the site to initiate the escharotic process.

Blondie decided not to continue with Cansema. She just puts up too much of a fight to avoid any more medication. Knowing we cant give the cansema unless she eats, she will refuse all food. So we caved in.

Update May 2004: Tumor is unchanged. Its still right there, but unchanged, and not a problem for her.  It looks to like the piroxicam effected the tumor via the cox-2 enzyme and it cant grow. Its not a "cure", but she can live a otherwise normal life with this bump in her mouth.
